if you remove the convertor it will be louder and if you have to pass e-check, you definitely won't w/o it!

If The muffler you have is Original equipment then the muffler is bad. If it isn't OEM then it is either bad or has been manufactured to sound that way. Either way, the only way to lessen noise is to replace the muffler. Don't remove the catalytic converter as your engine was designed to run best with the back-pressure that the Cat. Converter and the muffler produce; it wouldn't pass a clean air check either.

removing the catalytic converter is highly illegal in the states for street driving. if EPA catches you or finds out that you have no cat, you will be fined. i wanta take mine off because it will make it faster. if your mufler is loud than you need exhaust work. unless its a rice racer.
