Yep, something like Febreze will work well on the upholstery. Also use it on the inside of the roof as most of the smoke smells are actually there. Dust and polish all the plastics, i.e. dashboard etc and give the inside of the windows a good clean. I bought a pack of 30 Car windscreen cloths from LIDL for £1.99 and they work brilliantly. All done for less than a fiver and in about 90 mins.

Give it a good cleaning and then use Febrezze. To keep the smoke smell out don't smoke in the car.

Wipe the non-fabric surfaces down with a good cleaner that won't dry them out (no ammonia, chlorine or bleach). Spray the carpet, floor mats and seats if they're fabric with carpet shampoo, wait for it to dry and vacuum. Sometimes I put carpet sprinkle deodorizer on the carpet, under the floor mats. Also have put those dryer sheets under the seats. And don't forget some Febreze. Good luck.

On a hot day, put a cup of vinegar on the dash or in the cup holder. close all the windows. let it stay in there for at least the hottest time of the day without opening a door or window. the vinegar absorbs odors (wierd huh). there will only be a hint of the smell left, use febreeze to cover that up and you are done!

dont allow anyone to smoke in your car...empty the ash trays and open the windows when your in the car...or better still find a good valeting service who will give the car interior a good clean, the smoke has obviously gone into the seat covers and will linger each time to get into the car...but stopping them from smoking is a good idea

yuck yuck yuck! i hate the smell of cigarettes, a friend of mine just bought a used truck for her son that reeeeeeeeeeeked of cigarettes, she took off all the knobs to EVERYTHING, and let them soak in soapy water, scrubbed the hell out of the dash, the doors, the steering wheel, anything you can clean.....scrub the hell out of it! what kind of seats do you have?? get a good cleaner for the appropriate material and clean away!!!!!!! all that cleaning will get the smell out, just don't rely on air fresheners, the smell is deep into everything in that car!!! : )
