OMG-noooo. It wouldn't. A diamond is harder than a hammer. Way harder...nothing can break one except another diamond-hence the reason they have to cut them with other diamonds. If it was a diamond tipped hammer, maybe...

But no, it will not. Don't listen to the other people. I am an Earth Science Major, this is what I study for a living.

Diamond is brittle, extreemly strong too, but brittle
so, if you use a normal( bang the nail in )hammer, yup, it will probably shatter (put a nice big dint in the face of the hammer too)
if you use a wooden mallet all you do is ruin the face of the mallet

but if you gave it a good hit, yes.

Diamond is very hard. (10 on Mohs scale, hardest substance known to man) but that just means its hard to SCRATCH, not to smash.

look at the size. it break into pieces for sure. unless you try to smash a bigger diamond then you'll find its harder to break off

yes cause there is no rock in a 2 karat, it would smash to pieces, get something more expensive.
