My daughter is applying to HBC Howard and Hampton Universities. She needs some suggestions on her entrance essay. I would love to hear from students who attend Historically Black colleges. Thanks!

How about how things have changed yet stayed the same in the Deep South. The government is catering to the religious right and Hispanics and illegal immigrants while leaving some of the poorest AMERICANS to live no better than they did in the 1800s early 1900s. If you drive through the areas away from the big cities of the Deep South you will still see people living in shacks with no windows no electricity and no running water. Drive through during the picking time for cotton and you will see the poorest of the poor walking along the road picking up the cotton that fell off big semi trucks from commercial picking operations. This is the best time for some of these people because they can resell the cotton they collect from the roadway to buy food for their families. I'm not black but this is something I have witnessed with my own eyes and it just about made me sick to know there are AMERICANS that have less than illegal immigrants. There is truly something wrong with that picture no matter what the color of the AMERICANS skin.

I went to Hampton! I don't remember what I had to write about - they gave a specific subject when I wrote mine about 6 yrs ago. Usually a personal story demonstrating a time when you had to overcome something or learn a lesson is always good. They like to see that you're mature, open-minded and have experiences that will help you throughout college. Tell her to be honest, but don't sound fake - it's so easy to determine who's trying to kiss up. Hampton is a great school - good luck to her!!!

I attend an HBCU but I did not have to write an entrance essay. I suggest writing about the importance of a post secondarye ducation for minority students. Perhaps reflecting on her strugggles (if she had any) in getting to this point in her life could be beneficial as well. I wish I could give you more info, sorry.

i imagine you should act on your ideas. per chance no longer a song, yet a video with you telling memories you've written down. you should assemble pictures from the internet too and write little notes to them because the memories spread. Like, at the same time as telling the fence tale per chance caution them about electrical energy etc. besides, that's a darn solid idea. you should very well be able to marketplace the format for seniors to apply. Mine ought to contain, making apple cider, playing baseball, driving motorcycles, barefoot all summer season, damning up the creek and swimming there all summer season, paper dolls, nighttime time sled driving at the same time as an finished moon facilitates, farm antics(stray vs hay). thanks for the information and an outstanding idea.
