It really depends on how much you earn, if your on a high salary it won't matter as much as if you're on low salary plus you've got to determine what your other outgoings are I would have thought!

Most of the time, accommodation is so expensive that the question is not how much you should spend but rather how much you can afford.

One way is to do a reverse engineering, i.e., take home pay minus all taxes, daily expenses, insurance, medical, 10% savings, tithing, etc. Whatever is left sets the limit for your accommodation.

If you are in your home country, yes its ok to spend 30-40 % of ur salary.If not dont spend more.. coz you better save money and go back to your home country for a better life

I always say that you should devide your wages into 3. first third for rent or mortgage costs. secound third for household bills and the third part for personal spending, like getting to work and getting food to eat. So the answer is One third.

yeah, I also heard the no more than a third rule, but I spend more than that and I am still alive, so a little more couldn't hurt probably.

If you are talking about home expenses, it should be no more than 30% fo your TAKE HOME pay.
