The works that most influenced your thesis. The ones you can't understand the topic without. "Seminal" means what it sounds like; seed. Root; necessary. Ideally, the place you start, but real research isn't like that. You poke around quite a bit before the seminal works start to pop up.

This is an opinion based upon the root of the word "seminal".
I would think that seminal work would be initial work, ground zero work, first studies, original type of work or studies.

Sounds to me like seminars. Presentations, lectures/interaction or discussion covering specific areas perhaps?
