It depends on the fiber of the carpet. Wool will take a fabric dye much better than polyester. If it's a good carpet, it would be worthwhile to get a professional to come and take a look. They can tell you if it can be repaired.
If it's in an out of the way spot or isn't that expensive, try the tea bag thing. It works for dyeing fabric. I've used this method for "ageing" lace or fabric for craft projects. Sometimes you have to do it several times to get the intensity you want. Polyester is almost impossible to do. For that I've had to get a pkg or bottle of Rit dye, close to the color, and experiment with how much dye to how much water, and it's trial and error.
Godd luck!

Hi!
So sorry about the bleach oops, my husband did the same thing. I have had some success with tea bags. I boiled the tea bags and placed them down over the center of the spot and dampened the white areas almost to the edge, covered with a weight and let dry. I used black pekoe tea, but depending on the tint to your carpet you might try orange, green or flavored tea. I also steeped tea bags to dye old linen and lace curtains to a rich beige very successfully. Diluted RIT dye might be worth a try, too. Good luck.

Many carpet cleaning services also offer carpet dying service, it should be possible to either dye the spot so that it is less noticeable or dye the entire carpet to hide the spot. I suggest contacting some of your local carpet cleaners to see what they offer in the way of these services.

I simply did the entire carpeting to match it and it worked great ! My carpeting was a dark brown, the bleach made it look orangy so now I have brown orange variations throughout the whole room... It Looks much better than it sounds.... ha ha ha !! : )

Ask around at carpet retailers. There are layers who can do fantastic patch up work, and can colour match with dyes. I have seen the work and was amazed.

check the dye section sometimes there is products there to help undue accidents like this.
You could try fabric paint.
