Bite it. If it tastes good, you're on a winner.

Usually you'll notice that the printing on the CD looks different from the one you'd buy from the store and the CD cover might even be different. I bought a few pirated CDs when I was on deployment and these were the differences. Also You see like a greatest hits collection from a band who never put out a greatest hits. Most of them do work but be careful.

It's getting harder. I don't think you can be 100% sure if your buying from places like ebay. Things to look for in fake. CD brand is usually printed in the clear area in the center of the CDR (TDK Memorex, ETC). Dole printing of cover art, insert made from plain paper, but like I said, it's getting harder. The better the printer the better the fake. DVD's are easy there purple studio released DVD's are silver.

Bruce W said it as it is. Here where I am the pirate is more common than the real thing. If I ask for the copyrighted copy they look at me like I am crazy. When i bought this computer it took me several times of talking to them to get them to understand I wanted a legal copy of windows XP Pro. All the people I know here use nothing but pirate software. they do work.

real ones tend to have printing direct onto the cd itself rather than a printed label.

Also the real cd is very silver where they tend to have a hint of green or purple if you look carefully at the playing surface on the fakes!

maybe the cover or cd detail is dodgy. have a close look at it. if you think its fake and you brought it off a cd shop take it back and demand a refund.

It's fake if it's cheap. And the real thing must have a bright thingy(like a small icon or something, don't know how to name it in english). You know?

Eat your favourite meal off it. Lick it clean and wipe on your lucky undies for good measure. If you can still play it, then it's probably fake my friend.
