My orchid plant has just stopped flowering - what should I do with it now? Cut it back? If so - how much? Where should I keep it and how often should I water it?

I'm not sure what kind of orchid you have. The most common kind is a Phalaenopsis- moth orchid.
These are culture sheets from the American Orchid Society for most of the common types.

More than 30,000 species of orchids exist, suited to almost every environment in the world. Which variety of Orchid do you have at home?

Some Orchids bloom 2 or even 3 times each year. Modern hybrids often simply bloom when the new shoot is finished growing; this is the case with the Oncidiums, Odontoglossum hybrids, Miltonias and many others. Some, like Cattleyas, do have a season, but this will vary with individual plants and their specific pedigrees.

Why your Orchid hasn't rebloomed?
This may be a different matter with each orchid, however the most common causes are under watering - there are actually very few orchids that need to dry out between waterings. Most like to remain consistently, evenly moist.

Second most common reason is not enough light, and the third is not enough fertilizer or fertilizer applied incorrectly (generally, too strong a solution). There's an equation the orchids use: Light + Fertilizer = Flowers.

You can cut it,depending on how long it is.I have 6,7 plants,I have flowers all the time because I bought them at different time on the year.Nice flowers. If you place in window with light only, then water twice a week take it in to the water for few minutes. But if you have sunlight in the window then it may dry fast.

I cut mine back and stop watering it as much as I do when it is blooming. Mine bloomed around Mother's day so it will not bloom again until next year. I have mine sitting in my east garden window.
