Take a small bottle, such a 20oz pop bottle or water bottle, pour in just a little of either apple cider or white vinager, make a funnel with a small piece of stiff paper of some sort, like the little post card reply letters you get in the mail all the time, and place it in the top of the bottle, pushing the paper level with the opening of the bottle. Sit this trap close to where you see the majority of the gnats. The gnats will crawl into the bottle to get to the vinager smell , but they can't get out. The only trick to this is making sure the stiff funel is only about 1 to 2 inches in width. I usually keep the lid to place back on the bottle to shake once in a while to drown the little buggers.

We had the same problem with fruit flies. In the short run, I used a vacuum cleaner with a crack and crevice tool on the end of the hose to get them. I could move it right up to them, and once the tip was 3-4 inches away, the fruit fly had no hope. Much easier and neater than using a flyswatter. But you'll still have flies coming from somewhere for a few days as eggs hatch and the little vermin develop. Be sure you get rid of everything that could be a food source. Look under stoves, behind the fridge, under the sink, on top of cupboards... We finally traced our problem to a trash can in the basement!

try putting bannana peels on a cookie sheet in the oven and then let it sit there with the oven open for a while. Then when you go to bed shut the oven door and turn it on to 350 and bake for a while. And they are dead.
