Most families had one car and one television set, black and white, and one telephone, that you dialed by sticking a finger in a dial. There were three television stations, and they stopped broadcasting after the evening news. You could be outdoors, out of sight all day, and your mom would not worry that you had been abducted. Our car had no air conditioning, so in summer, we travelled at night. Seat belts were not required, not even available on most cars. Radio stations broadcast in AM.
No microwave ovens, few choices of "TV dinners" which were quite unpalatable. Gas wars drove the price of gasoline down to 25c/gal or even less. You could take a knife to school to cut your sandwich and not end up on the evening news in handcuffs.
Almost everyone went to church, even if you did not believe, because it was important for most social and business contacts.
There were not the intense standardized tests found in public schools today. They encouraged the slow kids to drop out, without ever addressing the issue. Bullying existed, and was accepted as part of "growing up".
School lunches were 35 cents. School cafeteria food is amazingly exactly the same.

I was way more innocent
I believed parents were there to protect
My best friend was my collie
I adored my big brother
I loved to hike the hill
I had the reddest hair
I never wanted to leave my home town in the country
Christmas & my birthdays were soooo slow in coming
I hated most vegetables but liked lollies
And I couldn't wait to grow up

When I was a child, there were no computers, video games, or microwave ovens. Kids don't understand today what that would be like!

I had funny looking glasses and asked "interesting" questions. Hey just like you! At least one of us grew up. Good job I never will.
