Because the US is a Christian Theocracy that demands only Christian law be followed. As such being gay under 18 is considered just a phase and the idea is you'll grow out of it. Of course, the problem is they don't get it. Your sexual orientation is pre-determined and nothing will change it, accept of course being constantly beaten upon to lie, in which case you end up in a hopeless, loveless marriage to a woman and continue to see men on the side. US society creates the conditions in which one must lie, but then condemns for lying. It's a vicious circle they create and sadly they take great joy in seeing young gays suffer.

There is a popular misconception that teenagers all go through a "gay phase", and that gay teens shouldn't take for granted that they are gay until they're outgrown the phase. This is probably the reason why they always say to wait until you're 18 to know for sure.

It is true that about 90% of boys will have a homo-erotic encounter between the ages of 10 and 16, and most of these boys are aware of the fact that they are indeed straight. But when the hormones are raging, it's kind of just a psychological release to experiment sexually with someone of the same sex while maintaining their hetero status.

However, in my personal opinion, by the time you're 13 or 14, you KNOW whether or not you're gay or just experimenting.

That would depend on where you are. The High Court in Hong Kong (of all places) recently upheld a resolution that equalled out the "age of consent" laws there, it had been that the age of consent for sexual contact was 16 for females but 21 for male-male sexual encounters. The lower courts found that unfair and lowered the age restrictions to 16 across the board and the High Courts upheld that decision. (3 guesses who opposed the decision)....

I never heard of such a thing.

But you bring up an interesting point: some parents accept better the news of gayness when pronounced by a younger person because they think it's a phase and they refuse to believe it's real (to the person saying it.) And kids are raised to believe all guys want something, all girls want something. Interesting.

Look, everybody have their point on which age is best to go after your object of desire, even there are laws about it everywhere, and answering your question: no one parent will never learn on how to accept a gay kid, but they cheer their straight ones (especially males), And going back to the point, no one will ever recognize the age of their first sexual experience publicly...

There's a built in bias against gays having sex. If you're under 18 and having gay sex people assume you're being abused or taken advantage of, or possibly abusing your equally aged friend. If you're under 18 and having heterosexual sex, people assume you're just exploring your sexuality.

No one under 18 ought to be having sex, really. Minors make poor decisions and may choose untrustworthy people who may be looking to take advantage of them.

Minors need to concentrate on finishing school and going to college.

I think it's generally a bad idea to have sex before you're 18 whether you're gay, straight, or bi. You will have your whole life to have lots of great sex. The sex that you'll have when you're younger will amlost certainly be lousy and high-risk both emotionally and physically.

Who says such things is my first question, and my second is, who actually listens?
If we worried about every little thing "do-gooders" - who are 99% of the time NOT GAY - tell us to worry about, then we'd have no time left for being gay.
Just do as I do, and ignore everyone's opinion on gayness, unless they actually are gay.
