the count of monte cristo fits that bill. it's an amazing book. and it'll answer both questions

read the abridged version, the unabridged is ovr 1300 pages

Revenge: "Hamlet", probably "Frankenstein" by M. Shelley (the monster takes the revenge on dr somehow), "Iliade"....

Forgiveness: "Pride and Prejudice" (they forgive each other somehow...)
