Generally, I am quiet and somewhat unassuming. I prefer to observe more than to spout-off. If and when I do "shoot from the hip," I do so leaving no bullets in the chamber; but those instances are rare.
As for people "calling it like it is," I think people often make the mistake of assuming what they think to be true for the actual truth of a given situation. Our perceptions often fail to grasp the entirety of that situation.

I am quiet and unassuming, until I have the facts, then I shoot from the hip. Doing research prevents foot in mouth syndrome.

Not really sufficient options.
While I shoot from the hip in an oral confrontation; in written communication I attempt to make the same point with a more rational and considered approach.
