I think it is necessary to CHANGE the way African countries are aided. I think it's a waste to hand financial aid over to their corrupt governments, but it is wrong to stop helping the general citizens in those countries. The ways in which they are helped must be only be changed. I'm thinking jobs, small loans to normal people so they can start small businesses, financing schools and basic health care without the money ever going through the hands of the governments. We should give them motivation and help them help themselves. Endless handouts are pointless, especially when they just end up in some corrupt politician's pockets, but there are other ways to help.

There does seem to be a pattern of events in Africa.
Corrupt Government - widespread poverty results
Rebel groups gather in the remote areas
Civil War between rebel and Govt forces
Rebel forces sweep into capital
Promise end to corruption and graft
....Corrupt Government - widespread poverty results.
And so on and so on.
What does financial aid and debt cancellation actually acheive, apart from another gold plated BMW?
It's all very well and noble for us to wring our hands and say that something must be done (and, quite frankly, something should be done, given that a lot of problems in Africa are the lingering hangover from bloody European colonialism) but the responsibility is double ended. There is absolutely no point in giving Africa money, if all they will do is buy guns to turn themselves into the next tinpot dictator.

well, i am very thankful for your comments on india and china because i am from india. you are right about the finacial aid to africa, but we need to help the people out from refugee camps. i thing that the world forces go in and smoke out all the rebels and make that place peaceful, that going in iraq. we should cut the financial aid, but keep the rebuilding effort.

frist of i think the us government or any other agencies does not excatly who they give money to when they say they are donating money to africa. it depends on the people you are giving the money to and not all african states are poor. someof them do have their own stock markets the us have . south africa, nigeria ganhna and egypt all do have stock markets.

You need not being so absolute.....We'd better teach them well to survive on their own
...yes! But if really money goes there, why, a little help could enhance them!
