I'm not sure that it is possible to "define" life. It
is a process (or collection of processes) which
can be described, but not defined in the sense of
a definition of a word.

i don't think anyone can define life any more than one can define success... we all have our own definitions of what it is and we'll never be able to come up with a definition that everyone agrees fits... life is more situations that you have to adapt to but you can't turn around and say that "life is suffering" or "life is living and doing your best each day" "life is taking it day by day".. it's like a multiple choice question - all the answers might be correct, but there is one that is more correct than any of them and that's why we'll never agree on one definition

I would think that it is defined as something that is comprised of one or more functional cells.
This would rule out viruses though as they do not qualify as a cell due to the lack of generic cell components.

You are born, eat, sleep, love, stress, get sick and die.
That is life in a nut shell.
