i remember toward the end of the movie one of the fighter pilots dies but i can't remember who or how? Also who was the actor who played him- i am thinking it was val kilmer.

The character that died was "Goose", played by Anthony Edwards. He was married to Meg Ryan in the movie and the partner of Tom Cruise's "Maverick" character. He died when the plane started to spin out of control and they had to eject. He crashed into the canopy of the plane and died.
The character of "Iceman" played by Val Kilmer didn't die. However, "Maverick" did have to save him at the end of the movie.

no it wasn't Val Kilmer's character that was killed i don't remember the name of the guy but the characters name was Goose. He was Maverick's (Tom Cruise) flight partner in the movie. Anyway, Goose dies from ejecting from the plane when is was spiraling down to the ocean. When he ejected from his seat he hit the top canopy of the fighter jet and that's what killed him.

Goose. He was the RTO for Tom Crusie. He was played by Anthony AGHHHH! What is his last name. He played the M.D. who died on E.R. from a brain tumor. Anthony Gross or something like that. Ahh. Anthony Edwards there we go. He was awesome in that movie "gotcha" about the Communist and paintball mix.
