I keep having the same dream where I'm in a posh hotel, I thought the significance was the hotel at first then I thought it was about the fact I'm always trying to get out, then I realised it's the staircase that's significant. When I'm scared I'm running up them but when I'm casually walking to the doors I'm going down them.

running up the stairs is an uphill task - a difficult task wherein you have less confidence of achieving the desired result.

getting down the stairs is easy downhill task. you are confident of achieving the desired result and hence you are relaxed.

posh hotel is the resting place - you are in awe of it. may not be too comfortable as in your house. yet enjoyable to certain extent.

i think the whole dream denotes some kind of risk-taking that has put you in a dilemma. am i right? pls give a feed back.

On what basis would anyone interpret your dream? Does anyone have a good scientific theory of what dreams really ARE ... functionally, and as information?

If we don't know what dreams are, how they are produced ... how could we possibly interpret their contents?

Well ... I have some ideas of what dreams are, so will try.

Dreams are real information. They're a result of our brains' 'quantum entanglement' with others ... including other 'copies' of ourselves, in other universes... of which we're normally quite unaware. Dreams are not merely 'symbolic'. (What does that mean, anyway?) Dreams can present very real scenes and perspectives... but in often disjointed, time-shifted fashion ... allowing you (as in recurring dreams) to "replay" the scene time and again.

So. There's some issue in that hotel ... some important event ... one that is a REAL event. You ... some part or version of you ... have some need / drive / want to resolve that issue. This may be for you own benefit, or others ... the issue may be larger than your own (or, "other-self's" own) private concerns.

You can achieve resolution by merely recapitulating / reviewing the dream scenes, thus helping to extract / reveal the relevant information to relevant systems/entities.

To achieve success, first think about the TOTAL context of that scene. The hotel is in a city. It has a lobby, restaurants, etc. It is likely not even on this Earth, but on another in the multiverse. Let your mind wander/wonder over scenes inside and outside the hotel.

The issue may be one of money, love, power, politics ... private or public.

Second, to resolve the issue, just let your mind consider WHERE in the hotel ... or elsewhere ... that issue is coming to a head. Is there a meeting? Some exchange? Is someone in particular coming to visit? Where will they go next? What will happen? Again, just let your mind wander.

Such is the nature of mind, nature and information. In this way, you will recognize this reality, and do all that is possible to resolve the real issues underlying this dream.

My little attempt:

The posh hotel and trying to get out may symbolise that you feel a little unworthy, or have low self esteem. The staircase may resemble reaching achievements and you are only driven to achieve when you are being scarred into doing so... other wise you will take the easy route....

That or you just remeber the hotel and staircase from when you were a kid...

I don't really think dreams mean anything.

posh hotel = nice temporary place, desire
scared of running up staircase = do not want to risk
walking to the doors, you are going down = wrong decision making

It is a dream of decision making. Perhaps, there are many times in real life you are not confident in making decision. By projecting a hotel is a like desire you want to have/be. However, you can't get what you want because there is something about your decision making. You may hesitate in real life. Subconsciously you want to do something you desire, but it turned out differently (like the walking to the doors)

I have tried to interpret my dreams, too, & it's hard. From what I have read, going up means failing & doing down means success - completely opposite of the dream. I think your dream may be trying to tell you that while you are scared of failing you are too casual about succeeding. If you google "interpret dreams" or "dream interpreter" there are some websites that help but putting in a narrative of your dream is useless because it interprets only by the word so if you put in for instance "cats sleeping" it will interpret what it means to dream about cats & what it means to dream about sleep. A friend of mine had an old book that was right op the money but I can't remember the title & in all the other things I've researched things are sometimes different so don't use only one source.

Um, you've said the various things the dream was about, but you haven't actually told us the dream, other than 'I'm in a posh hotel'. More details would be helpful!

PS Any dream interpretations I come up with are overactive joke answers. I reckon dreams are just your subconcious doing the equivalent of settling down to watch Eastenders!

At a guess you are at a transitional period in your life. This has forced you to question many of the elements of your life; relationships, financial security and how you interact with your peers. The hotel represents everything associated with your daily routine. The staircase represents a means of progressing onwards in life but which has an associated risk. You have the choice to climb upwards or remain at ground level. You are not sure which route to take at present.

The only thing I can think of is that the stairs signify your life. Your travelling up them when you're scared means that you are afraid of the future. Maybe the future in general or perhaps a certain situation coming up. The casual walking down is you subconcious feeling in control when you are out of the situation and you know you are.

If it keeps happening (the dream), next time you have it, relize it's a dream and defy the laws of physics, because in dreams they don't exist! So fly up to the top of the stairs, summon an energy blast, blow the door off, and dive out!

Okay, that's more of a suggestion than an interpretation, but it may work.

pray about it. maybe God knows... you would think that the One Who gave you the dream would know what it means... right??
my Bible says-
"if you need wisdom- if you want to know what God wants you to do- ask Him, and He will gladly tell you. He will not resent your asking.but when you ask Him, be sure that you really expect Him to answer..." James 1:5

i do not believe that i have the gift of prophecy- and to enterpret dreams and such... but i'll take a shot for you.

you probably should've given your entire dream- not little pieces that you thought were significant.
you could be running up the stairs because you're scared that something's gonna trap you in the bottom. you could just be running up so fast, looking for an exit anywhere... like life. people run so fast and so hard nowhere... it exausts them... they just want a quick exit to get away from the world. looking frantically for the anwsers. they need someone bigger and better to take thier situation. that could be why you run up. "up" would insinuate "better, bigger, superior... and so on" you could just be looking / "running up the stairs" to God. (God= someone bigger and better.) this is while you're running scared UP.
however, once you've been scared, once you go up, and fing your Help... He helps you walk calmly DOWN the stairs... back to the world. "down" would insinuate the world- trouble, heartache... everything you thought was gonna "trap" you while you were on the bottom floor. but once God took over your life, He helps you face the world and your fears calmly until your time on this earth is up.
