The cancer eventually spread to Marley's brain, lungs, liver, and stomach. After recently playing two shows at Madison Square Garden as part of his fall 1980 Uprising Tour, he collapsed while jogging in NYC's Central Park. The remainder of the tour was subsequently cancelled.
Bob Marley played his final concert at the Stanley Theater in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on September 23, 1980. The live version of "Redemption Song" on Songs of Freedom was recorded at this show.[4] Marley afterwards sought medical help from Munich specialist Josef Issels, but his cancer had already progressed to the terminal stage.
Death
While flying home from Germany to Jamaica for his final days, Marley became ill, and landed in Miami for immediate medical attention. He died at Cedars of Lebanon Hospital in Miami, Florida on May 11, 1981. His final words to his son Ziggy were "Money can't buy life", possibly a quotation from the song sung by Carlene Davis ( "If life was a thing that money could buy, the rich would live and the poor would die. Money can't buy life".). According to his Christian mother, Cedella, his final words were 'Jesus, take me', though at his funeral the Rastafarian presence was still eminent. Marley received a state funeral in Jamaica, which combined elements of Ethiopian Orthodoxy and Rastafari. He was buried in a crypt near his birthplace with his Gibson Les Paul guitar, a soccer ball, a marijuana bud, and a Bible. A month before his death, he was awarded the Jamaican Order of Merit. He was given a new Rolls Royce automobile before his death.

In July 1977, Marley was found to have malignant melanoma in a football (soccer) wound on his right big toe. Marley refused amputation, citing worries that the operation would affect his dancing, as well as the Rastafarian belief that the body must be "whole"

ok to the person who said DRUG ABUSE, lol really? did he smoke his body weight 3 times over worth of pot? lol bob marley may have partaken in marijuana but he was not a drug abuser, marijuana is not even considered a drug anymore and it shoulda never been considered a drug. I dont smoke marijuana but i also dont believe it is bad. It is a safe anxiety treatment, id rather the people i love smoking pot for stress and anxiety and depression rather than them taking the god awful addicting drugs like xanax, prozac, zoloft and all those things, they all have side effects of POSSIBLY MORE DEPRESSION AND SUICIDAL THOUGHTS not to mention if someone drives after taking any of those pills they will probably fall asleep driving, and they cant drink while taking any, even socially because of the interaction, well with marijuana there is no interaction dangers. and if you drive on it you will probable drive better than you do when you aren't smoking pot lol it makes you concentrate and focus more on things. and the federal govnerment already said they wont stop any US STATE FROM LEGALIZING POT. that is very telling, our own federal government doesnt believe pot is dangerous and are pretty much saying they got no problem legalizing it but only if a state wants that kinda vote to take place thent he federal government will not do anything to stop it from passing, as long as it gets the popular vote.
