This is because throughout the month her utueres has been building up a heavy linning full of blood vessels. This is to provide a nice enviroment for a fertalized egg to implant in. If there is no egg fertalized that month, then the body will shed the linning. The linning is what the menstral blood is composed of. For the most part it is not painful for a women to have her period, though she may expereince cramping.

Are you talking about menstruation?! A period is when a woman's body gets rid of the uterine lining, when she's not pregnant. The blood and tissue is the lining of the uterus. The reason for a period is cleansing. If the old uterine lining doesn't get flushed, it can cause serious problems. It usually happens once a month.
