You mean excommunication, right?
My mother was excommunicated from the Catholic Church for 'marrying out', when she married my (atheist) C of E raised father.
It simply means that if you break the rules of a set religious organisation, they throw you out.
My Great Grandmother was also struck off the register... or at least.... she was not mentioned again in any records, neither was her child (dad's dad) after mention was made of her marriage to an outsider, in the Quaker records of her Meeting house (church)
and so, she was no longer considered one of them.
Dad became an atheist due to all of this... but... I am a devout non-denominational Christian... the only one in my family of seven, and i have no church, because, I believe religion is man made for control, whereas, faith, is something private between an individual and their creator.
And seemingly, according to my late aunt, dad's sister, also a Christian, I inherited my faith through our ancestors, William Penn and George Fox... who set up the Quaker movement and we go back in records from my Great Grandmother, to them.
In short... it means struck off the records of your particular church.

I think you mean excommunicate, which means being cut off from the church by church authorities. An excommunicated person loses sacramental, fellowship, and privileges of the church.

If not then you might be confused with the term Ecumenical which refers to a single unified Christian church.
