I just named my daughter Jasmine Rose and I love it.
I like Leo or Johnny for a boy because they're really masculine.
I don't like names that are directly after celebrities or really obscure, like Shakira Britney.

I just don't like all these weird names like Scout and Suri. I think those kids are going to get made fun of in school so their parents can feel cool and original. At the same time I would try and stay away from the names that are really popular this year or you will end up like me and find that five people turn around when they hear my name. Like don't name your girl Jennifer or your son Matt. Although I like the name Matthew so I guess go with what you like first.

Everyone will have different opinions, but everything depends on what the last name is.
For instance if your last name is Green, don't name your kids Kelly or Forrest or Jade. I like those names but they shouldn't go with Green. Also watch out for initials. They shouldn't spell out anything that is bad or silly. For example Peter Ichabod Green would be P.I.G. You wouldn't want to stick a kid with those initials. (I wouldn't use Ichabod anyway, but it was the first one I could think of starting with I.)
Family names are great if there is someone you want to honor by naming your child after them. Watch out for naming after the father. I know George Sr. and George Jr.are great but they become Big George and Little George and then when little George gets bigger than Big George it gets a little confusing. Not that I like the name George that much (Even though George Forman named ALL his sons George)
it is just that I know someone who did that and regretted it.

I like good, classic names for kids. I'm old fashioned. I don't like the trend of using last names for first names: Riley, Tyler, Cooper, MacKensie.
But the real horrible names IMO are the ones with random capital letters: VaNeSSa and KaRin. Why do people do this to their kids? Don't they realize that some day this person will have to fill out a job application or submit a resume and will have trouble being taken seriously?

Go to your local bookstore and find a baby name book. These books often have thousands of names along with their meanings. Always think about what your naming your child because they have to answer to that name for the rest of their lives. And to all of you who think that names like Ashanti is a made up name look it up in a name book because it isn't. And FYI, I have a 16 years old daughter named Shakira and she was not named after a celebrity but for it's meaning which is "Thankful" and that she is. She is a wonderful young lady. So b4 anyone puts down someone choice of names for their child maybe you should find out the meaning of the name or way they chose the name. Good Luck!

I love the name Jack for a boy - good solid name that fits any age. Katie or Emma is a good girls name.
names after fruit are always a mistake - and names like Prince or Queen (i've heard of this actually used!) will be an embarassment in later life

For both boy or girl, you should give them 2 names, one normal, that won't get them laughed at at school later, and one a bit more original to which they can switch if they grow up to be eccentric or artistic.
Or if not, name them something which can be shortened eg: frederick would sound aweful on a little boy, so you could shorten it to fred or freddy, and when he's a man,he'll be able to switch bakc to frederick for more seriousness. You can have loads of name like this, for girls or boys.
Or simply give them a beautiful anme with a beautiful meaning! or the name of an object like Star, Rose, Joy...

I have two boys one called Sammie-Jay and the other is Sky. I like unusual names. I think common names are boring and for people that havent even bothered about a name for there child.

Tracey for a girl is my worst.
John for a boy

Good names are ones like Philip, Rebecca etc. I like common names, but maybe try to find one which isn't too common.

Horrible names are anything non-standard. People with unusual names will get teased for it. I feel sorry for the majority of celebrities' children. Other rubbish names are: Rupert, Eleanor (although Ellie is OK, but name your kid Ellie rather than Eleanor), Daphne, Doris etc. Avoid old people names!
