People commonly regarded as "ugly" by the bulk of American society, are among the groups who receive the harshest treatment, yet they have little or no political voice. It's OK, to poke fun at ugly, fat, and deformed people, discriminate against them in employment, not allow them in places of business, etc. Yet, if your question had been about a race or a sexual-orientation, etc. your question would be less well-received.
