And if so, or not, why

I'm asking because there don't seem to be opposite counterparts

This was a serious question, and I'm grateful to those of you who took the trouble to write considered answers without making assumptions about the asker.
I actually played very little attention to the BRITS so I missed out on the point that was made about all black origin music being lumped into one tiny little corner. The write makes a fair and valid point therefore about the necessity of proper recognition.
Also It is probably true that I have not suffered racial abuse in my own 'ancestral' country to the extent that those from minority groups do, but I have experienced it abroad and so do know how it feels.
I honestly believe that education is the key to a broader acceptance and I posted this question in the hope that someone could explain to me what this was really all about

To the lass who put 'here we go again' ... um, entirely unhelpful.

the mobos are most definitely not racist.
the mobos do not exclude white people, just look at how many white people were at the mobos and how many have attended in past years.

the award ceremony does not exclude white people from winning its awards either. Mike Skinner (the streets) picked up an award from the mobos a couple of years ago.

The mobos were formed in a response to black music not being given a spotlight at all the main music award shows in england. At many of these award shows they used to lump all black music in the same category, which is wrong.

someone mentioned earlier that black people would be unhappy if whites decided to make their own award show called the mowos. Well my response to that is that this already exist , but its is called the brits.

the brits celebrate music of white origin. There are hardly ever any black winners, 99% of all the music, winners and artist are all white. And all black music is lumped into a stupid category called 'urban'.

most associations and groups in society are aimed at white people, even though they do not prohibit blacks from joining, they are not aimed at blacks. Therefore, black people go off and create groups, associations and award ceremonies that do recognise our achievements

I dont think the're racist. I'm white and I don't agree with most people on here. Any minority group that has experienced wide spread racism (that includes Black cops or the average Black guy or girl on the street), deserves its own club or society. People who ***** about this being "politically incorrect" are in fact victims of pc themselves. "Oh it annoys me because I cant have a white music awards ceremony or a white cops society!"

Have you, as a white person, ever been subjected to racist comments or behaviour in the same manner and frequency as someone from a minority backround?

I doubt that very much

Do you think that, because minorities are generally treated like **** anyway, they deserve to have some forum to have pride in, or to celebrate a culture which they have every right to be proud of?

Its the least we could do.

Is there really a need for a white only music awards ceremony?

What do you think?

Somebody else who has the same opinion as me. These organisations exclude those of caucasian appearance, and for that very reason I think they are racist. But try telling that to the politically correct. Many people wonder why racism is still alive, but you only have to look at these two examples to get an idea. I am quite sure that if someone tried to set up a White Police Officers Association or a MOWO award, it would be swiftly condemned as racist, but I say 'What's good for the goose is good for the gander'. Thank you for voicing this.

Totally - they exclude non-coloured people by their very nature. This seems to happen a lot. I'm not racist by any stretch of the imagination, but it does anger me when I see 'black' or coloured only clubs, associations and businesses. Try creating a 'white' only association and you'll be branded a racist immediately, yet a 'black' only association seems to be ok - you'll never hear a non-coloured person calling it racist. No-one ever speaks up - probably because they are frightened they'll immediately be called racist for even mentioning it.

yes, if there was a MOWO (music of white origin) there would be riots because white people would be racist. but if we quistioned mobo we would still be racist so we just have to accept the double standards.
by the way im not racist, i have some good friends from around the world- all shapes, sizes and colours.

I don't think they're racist but a response to racism in earlier times. Any group has the right to protect its interests and I think these groups, and groups like them, serve a purpose.
