I cant answer your question m8, but a pat on the back from me for your attitude to helping others. If you don't get your answer try your local voluntary services, I'm sure they will advise you. Well done m8.

First, by gearing up to do one of the most frustrating things in your life. Since around 96% of homeless don't want to work or can't (even though they may say they do), you're in for a tough row to hoe. If you just want to give stuff to them, fine... that's easy. But it doesn't accomplish much. Getting them to be self sufficient should be the goal of any "outreach" center. Oprah tried this years ago, and it just doesn't work. Most homeless are pathetically lazy, that's why they're homeless. Many are mentally ill and need help. A few, however, actually want to work and are capable of it. They comprise less than 4%, unfortunately. If you want to help them, I would suggest your local Salvation Army or Deseret Industries for example. But don't get your hopes up... the vast majority of homeless are miserable, low life scumbags. At least here on the left coast of the USA.

Consult your local council to see if they run any outreach programmes you could get involved in or alternatively contact your local homeless charity or church and see if they run programmes you could volunteer on. Try the yellow pages for the telephone numbers or you could always write to some local homelessness charities. Good luck!

Churches and homeless day centres often need volunteers. You could start serving teas and food and gain experience in your chosen field while you train. The people who work there will be able to advise you on the best qualifications, but I believe certificates in counselling are a good start.
