I mean America is the nation that invented space travel. We were the first to go to the moon, why shouldn't our first woman space tourister be an American? What in the world gives? How UN-AMERICAN does this sound?!?!?!!? Are we waking up yet?!

Ask NASA, they speak in dollars...your tax dollars. Why in God's name don't we curb their spending???

The USSR was the nation that invented space travel. They had the first object in orbit, man in space, the first space station (and many more than NASA or ESA ever had) and were more successful than NASA until the moon landing. Baikonur (where the USSR's space project was launched from, and is still where the Russian Space Agency launches its rockets) still has regular rocket launches, both research and to the ISS as well as commercial launches for satelites and now tourism too.
Space tourism is a multi-billion dollar project, which is open to ANYONE rich enough to pay the cost. Ansari is a resident of the US anyway, she emmigrated from Iran in 1984. She was due to launch next month, but a Japanese man pulled out - is it an outrage that Japanese people are allowed to go into space as well? There have only been 4 space tourists, and half of them (a disproportionate amount really) have been US citizens, the other one was a South African.

Most fat, dumb, ingorant Americans who lay on the couch all day drinking Budweiser and munching Fritos corn chips and who fart and belch their way through the Super Bowl simply do not have the money for the ticket. If they do get up off the couch the only place they go is to either K-Mart for the Blue Light Specials or to Wal-Mart to stock up on cheap, shoddy Chinese products made by slave labor.
You do not know your history. Yuri Gagarin, a Russian, was the first person to travel in space, not an American. The first American space flight never even made an orbit.

1 - The Russians put the first man in space
2 - Ms Ansari had the money. It's called capitalism.
3 - It was her family that stumped up the money for the Ansari X-prize for the first private ship into space
4 - Ms Ansari, although Iranian born, is in fact an American citizen.
5 - It's un-American because she went up with the Russians.
