My laptop freezes when hooking it up to a projector to run PowerPoints. Is this a hardware problem?

Interestingly enough, the projector works on an older Toshiba laptop, but not on a newer one, and the newer laptop is fine on its own. I checked for drivers...no new ones, and the projector came with no softerware; just plug-n-play.

It could be, but here are some tests to diagnose the problem:

Uninstall the projector in Device Manager, reboot, then plug it in and see if it reinstalls.

Check for updated drivers on the manufacturer's website.

Plug it into a different port if you have that option.

Does it matter whether you start powerpoint before or after attaching the device?

Well....if the projector need a special driver ......then u must install it. But in most cases ......projectors dont need any driver to function properly . SO .....all u need to do is the proper settings in the video card DRIVER.

It's a hardware problem, you need to take your laptop and projector to a lab so they can check it
