At the age of 13 weeks, the baby's genitals are fully formed, so, anytime after that, you shouldn't have a problem seeing what the child is. It depends on the technician's experience whether or not, they can determine the sex of a baby, if it has little twigs and berries, or not, so try it, and good Luck!!!

My scans have been bang on every time but unless the doctor orders the ultrasound for medical reasons, I'd wait until past 20 weeks. I know at 17 weeks they can see what it is but if that's the only reason you're having the scan, why not wait until it could be a bit more definite?

It's never 100% accurate.
A friend of mine found out she was having a girl at 20 weeks, bought all the cute girlie clothes and washed them so they'd be ready, painted the baby's room, and had a boy.
If you want to know, then have the ultrasound, but don't take the tags off the clothes until after delivery!

no its not too early to find the sex out the baby would have developed into either a male or female at 10 weeks or something like that. So its deffiently there lol. It all depens on how the bub is sitting in the womb.

i found out my boy was a boy at 17 wks. but later when i had my girl, i went in at 19 wks and they said it was too early. luckily i needed a 2nd ultrasound at 21 weeks and we found out then ;)! based on my experience i agree with all the folks who say "20 weeks or later!" good luck!

I am now 20 weeks pregnant, and I found out what I was having approx. 5 weeks ago.....I went to a privated ultrasound business and they said that I was having a boy! Yesterday I went to my regular Dr. for the 20 week ultrasound, and she was right!

It's a boy!

Give it a shot

from what i know the earliest date to find out for sure is 20 weeks or later. earlier then that most babies will look too similar to tell because the sex organs havent finished forming and both look like little "buds" which are then either enclosed later on to form the vagina or they elongate and then the testicles are "dropped"

17 weeks can be too early because if its a female her vagina isnt fully developed yet so it wont show very much till about 20 weeks or so. but if its a male youll see it clearly but I would still hold off till at least past 20 weeks.

Wouldn't hurt to wait until your pregnancy is further along, so you can be more sure. Usually, not very clear at 17 wks.
