There's a great website, Quilter's Cache, that provides instructions on several basic steps. They also have a gazillion blocks with detailed instructions. Scroll down the page to find a drop down box that says "Where do you want to go today?" and select some of the lessons, or Quilt Blocks Galore.

You can also check out the Yahoo Groups. I belong to a couple of machine quilting groups (for the final quilting step, not the first piecing step). There are other groups geared toward all stages of quilting. The second link is to a list of groups that refer to both 'quilting' and 'beginner.'

Good luck - quilting is a lot of fun, especially when you can get involved in the quilting community.

what do you mean by...quilt board? i think you mean a wall board that you can put your quilt peices on without useing pins to hold them in place..if this is so, its called a flannel borad and you can make one, with a peice of plywood (your size) somequilt batting, then cover it with white ot gray flannel...you can make this small for your sewing table as well....hope this helps you..
