All it takes is positive reinforcement. Show him a picture of a rabbit bound and gagged with it's azz sticking out. Tell him that sweet revenge will be all his if he keeps up the pace...and just watch that tortoise run like if he had a holy jihad going on in his shell!

Yes, there is a fine way to do just that while getting some extra exercise yourself.

I hope you like football (soccer) though. You simply kick him so that he flies ahead of you a few meters as you run. Then when you catch up to him, kick him ahead again. The tortoise will also get his workout actually because his heart will be working very hard and he will be sweating (although it will likely be caused by the fear of being kicked and difficult landings).

If your tortoise requests that you quit kicking him, make some tortoise soup (surely it has got some of that protein you're always inquiring about...ha ha), or duct tape him to your pet giraffe's back for the jogs. Hopefully the giraffe can keep the pace with a speed demon such as yourself!

You heard of the story, “The Tortoise and the Hare”. Well you have to get a hare to go jogging with both you and your pet tortoise. Tortoises cannot stand to be beaten in speed by hares; therefore, the tortoise will always find a way to win in the end. Get the hare and he’ll get that tortoise motivated into keeping up the pace, trust me.

BTW, I’m happy to hear you liked “Walk the Line.” The scene that always sticks in my memory most is when they have the family dinner at Cash’s house, and Cash asks his Dad what he thinks of his home. When his Dad doesn’t respond, Cash gives his Dad this long glaring stare! I thought, “Gosh, that Joaquin Phoenix is so goood!!” I call that the “Phoenix Death Stare” and love it! (giggles)

I think the fairest thing is one day jog on the ground next day jog across a pond. That way you can both experience the bonding that comes from "running in the others shoes" sorta like "walk a mile in my shoes"

LOL, I had a turtle when I was a kid. I stuck him in my back yard right after I got him, He was about 12 inches in diameter, and about 40 years old. I figured he wasn't going anywhere when I put him out. The next morning, he was gone. Only a hole was present in the bank of dirt at the bottom of 'Rattlesnake Mountain' in Riverside Ca, was present. He had dug his way through the dirt beyond where we could retrieve him. About 4 months later, a neighbor found him in his back yard, with a hole in his 'bank'. It was the same turtle. We fed him lettuce, tomatoes, turnips, he loved it, but one day he was gone, that was 47 years ago, I'm sure he's still alive. We named him 'Digger' I hope he's happy and still mystifying everyone.

Buy him a skateboard and tie it to your ankle. He will keep up plus you'll get that extra weight for a better workout. You both win.

Buy him a scooter then you wont have to wait for him to catch up. If you cant afford a scooter invest in roller skates and tie a string to him.

First, I would need to know what kind of tortise. Once, I saw on animal planet, this turtle that had gotten run over. He lost his leg, so they gave him a wheel as one of his legs.

You could try fitting wheels and a small motor to the tortoise. :-)
