They were both framed for a robbery that they didn't do.
Gene Wilder ended up being a rodeo star in the prision due to his ability of staying on the bucking bronco longer than anyone else before him.
I seem to remember also that it had a great big bloke who had a voice of an angel but was a mass murderer.
Brilliant film.
