Science and technology has contributed a lot
Science and technology do not stand apart, indeed technology is defined as applied science to give advantage. It has given us so much advantage that we have become able to exceed the natural confines of our environment,
whereas the millions of creatures around us are not able to do so:
We have escaped the rule that what you can own, is only what you can carry.
We are no longer bound by the constraint that what you can eat today, is all you can feed on.
We are no longer limited by how much we feed, depending on how far we can walk.
We have subsidised everything we do with cheap fossil energy. We have over fifty fossil slaves each at our disposal, day and night.
We produce more food than we can eat. Populations increase accordingly.
We have conquered disease that once kept a check on population size.
We no longer die by being unfit.
We maintain a burgeoning army of bureaucrats and people who do not contribute to our basic needs, including the military, scientists, artists and technocrats.
We are being spared the consequences of our actions: pollution, sewage treatment, the poor getting poorer, bad habits like smoking & over eating, risky behaviour, spending now rather than saving for later, proliferating genetic disadvantage, etc.
We are no longer punished by not being prudent.
and so on.
the thing that you can sit home[from any part of theis world] and ask a question and get a well researched answer in minutes is a miracle of technology itself

Science and Technology is very very important in our lives, we might not be here today because of science and technology, but we might not also be here tomorrow because of science and technolgy. From wikipedia technology has given us:
* Home and farm, including Domestic Science, Agriculture, Animal husbandry, Veterinary medicine, and Recreation, including Athletics;
* Electricity and Electronics;
* Applied science, including Energy and Environmental Science;
* Military;
* Transportation;
* The Arts and Language, including the Information Sciences and Communication;
* Architecture, Construction, and Engineering;
* Medicine and Health, including Bioengineering.

Medical science has made it possible to operate more precisely, treat illnesses more effectively, enable invalides to live more easily with their handicap (to name a simple example, the glasses I wear is a product of science)

I am near-sighted and wear glasses.
My husband had apendicitis, had to have surgery.
My mother's thyroid was non-functioning, she's on medication to correct that.
My father was in an accident when he was a child, causing one femur to be longer than the other. He underwent surgery to have an inch of bone taken out of the longer leg. Now, he does not need to wear specially made shoes to keep his back properly alligned.
I have 2 brothers who struggle with clinical depression. They are on medication (one's in therapy) to correct that.

if you were to measure contribution of science and technology in terms of happiness and peace of mind, sorry, it has helped people become more self-centred and selfish. it has contributed to increased greed in the minds of people. it helps in curing certain diseases, at the same time evolve newer diseases. it has contributed to distances between people. it has contributed to increased stress levels in people and it is only helping the psychologists and psychiatrists improve their bank balances !
