Pink Floyd evolved from an earlier band, formed in 1964, which was at various times called Sigma 6 and then split to be called Tea Set and then Finally Pink Floyd Sounds. They dropped the Sounds part pretty soon after that.

And just out of interest,the title Piper at the Gates of Dawn comes from the seventh chapter of Kenneth Grahame's book The Wind In the Willows----and compared to the rest of the book its a very strange chapter,which is why the Floyd chose it.

Piper at the Gates of Dawn...was first album more psycodelic then. But they had singles out first!
