But the eagle is sooo much cooler. Like, you eat turkeys because they're good to eat. And I don't think we should venerate our national bird by eating it. Do you? Plus, the eagle flies, symbolizing our spirit of independence and our search for new frontiers. The eagle is a majestic bird, much more so than the turkey.

If what I read as a child is true, Ben Franklin wanted it to be a turkey. Can't say it is a particularly majestic looking bird, but I guess we could at least consider it. If my horse finds them scary (which he does), perhaps our enemies will too? They look like they've got a nasty bite. I am fortunate to live in Tennessee, not too far from Reelfoot Lake. Bald Eagles seem to have a thing for that place, and there are a few captive breeding programs here as well.

God yes PLEASE then I won't have to get fed turkey burger and turkey salami and turkey bologna and turkey hot dogs, because my wife feels it is better for me to eat Freakin' TURKEY AAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!

Yes it is true that Ben Franklin wanted the Turkey to be the national bird. I think it'll be a loooong time before the Bald Eagle becomes extinct. I know that there are still quite a few in the Rocky mountain region and the population is growing, with the climate in the area becoming milder in the winters!

Yes, I always thought they should've adopted the turkey instead of the eagle because Hitler liked eagles too. But I guess you gotta realize that our country was founded looooong before WWII, so they weren't thinking of that. Still, it would be nice if we could change without disrupting tradition too much. I like the turkey -- so Thanksgiving.

No. I think either a Buzzard or a Finch. Maybe a Turkey Vulture.

But then what will we cook on Thanksgiving and Christmas ?
I strongly disagree.
That would ruin a family tradition that goes back WAY too many years.

Disagree, we could always just clone the Eagles.
