i only watch Coronation Street & East Enders...but lately, in the last few months they have become sooo boring, i cant be bothered to watch them and find other things to do. As a result of me not watching these soaps so religiously i have painted my bathroom, done-up my fireplace, listended to loads more music, ha! I still catch the odd episode, though. It would be interesting if they did axe it, maybe people would go out more and get involved in their own communities instead of watching a pretend one on TV.

I did media studies at school and found it really interesting when we covered the aspect of why people watch soaps.

Coronation Street in my opinion has lost more than gained in popularity for several reasons. It has lost its northern Lancaster character and charm. It has lost most of its delightful humorous characters. Today it has far too many characters in its cast. Too much gloom; too many repetitive story lines; too many characters of a certain sexual persuasion for one small street. Only a few actors have managed to retain their appeal despite the less imaginative story lines. In all the years I have been a devoted viewer, I have of late found that my mind has begun to wander during these boring, stale episodes which fill in the main story. I just cannot keep up with all the characters. Too many for me to be interested in remembering their names. Often many of these short, decorative side stories seem to be on the same subject. It seems the writers have run out of ideas. I do not envy the actors, especially the huge amount supporting characters which seem continually to come and go continually. I think I am ready to change to some more interesting and exciting activity such as washing the dishes during Coronation Street time.

Coronation street should be, but not Eastenders. But I'm more of a fan of Footballers Wives.

Are you sure? A civil war would break out in the UK if these programmes were to be axed. Don't you think it also helps the government to know where the majority of the population are at certain time of the day? In front of their t.v.?
But seriously, I think having these soaps is great fun , giving us something to laugh or cringe about. So, no, they shouldn't be axed

Yes, as it has got stale, they are even digging up old
film story lines, remember the wedding in E Enders where
hes shouting to her and she runs of out of the church with him, Well think back to the classic film "The Graduate" Dustin hoffman. they stole the whole storey line from this film, and it was pathetic to watch, as they at E E,s just murdered a classic film scene.

There is a high percentage of people that would disagree with you, I enjoy my soaps and theses day it nice to know there is still gritty drama on tv. Also certain personal topics are quite helpful to people in society trying to resolve problems especially on soaps.

I think some of the story lines should be after the watershed i.e. wife bashing, abortion, murder. I know kids see it all nowadays, but wouldn't have wanted mine watching it at a young impressionable age. Would have had to turn it off.

I thought that about two years ago. I haven't watched a soap since, but I suppose the same old characters are still there!

No! I think there both still quite good, not as good as they used to be but think about it, if they got rid of them they would just be replaced with more reality tv sh ite which really does my head in and alot of other peopel would agree. get rid of emerdale- it sucks so bad (no one watches that crap anymore)
