That was funny Duncarin.
The pacifier was probably invented by some tired Mom who found that sucking on a baby bottle nipple soothed her baby. In fact a lot of parents probably did this before the product was actually "invented", named and marketed.

No one 'invented' it. It's a natural instinct for all mammals to suck on something when first born.

We are mammals.

When humankind was progressing in evolution ( don't worry, I believe in God and I'm a Christian ) , obviously it was necessary for a 'new' mother to do other things which would have triggered a mother's instinct pacify her new born.
