Bowls is a awesome game that i have been playing for 8 years. I am now 18. There is so much to be acheived in the sport. I just wish even more people would take up the sport and more events were televised. Its also the most rewarding and best team sport i have ever played. To play at a high level in bowls is something so enjoyable. Why dont you lot give it a go and meet some of the local young players that play? But stick at it and you will enjoy it!

Why dont u lot give it a try. Or what can be done to persude u to give it a try?? i know alot of older people play. but that is ok becuase its a sport they can play. But there is alot more to the game. It is also played at a very high level for all ages. Alot of people think only old people play it and for fun. How wrong cud they be! So what would we need to do to attract you people to take up the sport??

its just an image thing.

I don't see why it wouldn't appeal to any solo/physics based ball game like snooker or golf.

I'd have a go. The bowls clubs need to do a marketing pitch to thier communities.

"come visit, have a go, free beer"

I started playing when I was 10 & finished when I was 17. I'm now 22. Indoors takes too long & didn't enjoy it. Loved competitive outdoor games though. People say there's no skill, but you try nailing one when it's 20-20 in the semi-finals of the county singles and your hands shaking - that takes some doing.
Gave up because of the commitment - I didn't have a social life apart from bowls. Glad I gave up because I would have missed out on so many other things.
People take the mick out of the game even though they have never played it. At our local club they have an annual non-members competition. Some people take the mick out of bowls, but when they enter the competition they really enjoy it & take back their words. OK, some still say it's rubbish, but fair enough at least they've tried it.
Can't see it happening with outdoors, but I reckon loads more youngsters will take up indoors.
I'm glad I gave up, but keep moving mate cos you obviosuly enjoy it.

Encouraging betting could result in future bad habits or he could learn from this and never bet again. Sounds like a coin flip to me. Just emphasis how risky betting is and how in the end the risks really aren't worth it in the long run. Hopefully the son loses the bet but gains a win in the understanding.

I'm not sure what bowls is.... Isn't that like bocce, or something??? WEll, I play bowling, or 10-pin as it is sometimes referred to, but I dont do any of those lawn sports... Have never discriminated them though, like you said, you can't knock it till you try it, so to each their own... I guess it could be fun, but i've never even seen it in my area...

Both of my sons played when they were teenagers, they are now 36 and 33. I don't know why they do not play now.
