the answer is DON'T DIET!

Just eat healthily, lower your calorie intake and don't feel bad if every now and then you fancy something naughty! just limit yourself but don't stop entirely. Also don't call it a diet, its your new way of eating and it can last you a life time if you truly want to lose weight and stay healthy its the best way to go.

that's what i've done and i've lost 16lbs in 2 months!

Hi - you are the same height as me - I'm not sure what our ideal weight is but I've recently gone down from 9 1/2 stone to 8 11. I just replaced lunch with a slimfast shake or smoothie. Felt starving (but obviously wasn't) for a week or two but only needed to do this for about four months. Tried to stay off unhealthy food too just by cutting out crisps and chocolate for a couple of months. I now eat healthly in the week and badly at the weekends as a treat. Didn't do any exercise but that would help to speed up weight loss. Don't go too mad and lose too much. Good luck!

Boring answer but how about just trying to eat healthily and do a bit more exercise than before?
You don't really have to stick rigidly to a preset diet just try to make healthier choices. That way you don't have to live in diet misery where everything is forbidden to you. It's neither the fastest nor the most exciting way to lose weight but I do think it's the most effective.
All these Atkins and South Beach etc diets are just gimmicks designed to make money. If you are really having difficulty you could try Weight Watchers but you don't really seem to be hugely overweight and Weight Watchers will always be trying to make you buy their products-many of which are just like normal products (like the jelly sweets) only at vastly inflated prices.
Don't get too obsessed with food as it is not worth it and could take over your life....
Good luck!

Weight is 99% the result of diet. Exercise just helps firm up the skin after the weight is lost. Of course, if someone runs 10 miles a day and doesn't eat anything additional they will lose a few ounces. When you diet please remember that you have to eat the minim daily requirements of nutrients or your body will go into the starvation mode and you can't lose weight. Good Luck!

Diet is a four letter word!!! Never diet, believe me I have tried them all. The "weighless lifestyle" is the best because you are eating everything, and you don't feel deprived. You have to be disciplined in the beginning because of all the weighing, but once on for a while, it will become second nature and you will be able to guess pretty accurately what it weighs. Don't tell anyone either, because they have a tendancy to jeopardise your weight loss through jealousy etc.

You sound your ideal weight for your height. To get in to shape start by joining a fitness class and going swimming. Then you will want to start eating healthier. Diets don't work it's all about exercising and eating healthy.
