Maybe we'll see a kind of extended UN, but no Unified world under one government. Think of the huge administration it'll take to govern all those billions of people and their individual cultures...
But no - I don't think the west will have the same dominant role in the world as we do today... India and especially China will overtake a big piece of that role for sure, if not all of it. Hopefully in a non violent way...
But basically anything can happen during the next 100 years. We do live in interesting times.

I believe that the current formation of governments will not be the same - but the creation of a one world government is highly unlikely - too many people on this globe prefer to let jealousy and fear dominate their political choices - its is unlikely that humanity in 100 years will mature enough for there to be a creation of a one world government much better than the United Nations. Guys like Chavez in Venezuela in his postering attacks on the United States and the Western world is point one. The evils of Communism and other theologies like it that focus on economic jealousies continuing to exist need to be eliminated.

It is obviously human nature to disagree and have wars so I doubt if one world government will ever exist, just look at the UN. Every significant super power that has ever tried to conquer the world has failed (Germany, Rome) My guess would be that the nations that don't try to take over the world will still exist but I could be wrong.

I'd like to believe in one world government but the way things are going I fear we won't be around anymore in 100 years

What is so special about 100 years? In 5000 years it hasn't happened. The only way that would work is if I was in charge of the world, hugging, whining and annoying me would be the capital crimes.

Well Dude do not ask for such a long time. I think in next 25 years India,China will be the superpower.
US and EU(as a whole) will continue to retain their superpower label.
US will continue to retain its label as long as world is not dominated by Autocrats or if there is no WWIII.

maybe in one scenario, if earth was invaded aliens!!!
otherwise, its pretty much impossible.
in a 100 years, there will be a dominating empire. dont forget that empires usually survive hundreds of years like the roman, greek, ottoman, egyptian, pursian, mesopotamian.....etc
however, things are more complicated nowadays. emipres are finding it hard to sustain their influence and power. they are resorting to financial powers rather than militarily powers...except for the past 5 years or so. powers rise and fall, but would that apply to modern times considoring the immense experience and greater knowledge of ruling, propaganda and influence!

there is no way that the world will ever be under one government, there are too many diverse nations for that to happen, i guess if there was a world war and only one nation was left standing, then that could happen, but no, it wont happen

I reckon we'll either be blown to smithereens by some trigger happy idiot, or we'll be back to horse and cart and not capable of electing one government 'cause we wont be able to communicate with each other without it taking days, weeks or months for the hand written letters to reach overseas!

Lots of the nations that exist today are not in power. So how can they "still" be in power? Or are you equating existence with power?
