Contact your local Learning and Skills Council to talk about re-training if you can't find anything in your field, there are specific resources for over 50's in this respect.
Otherwise, try recruitment consultancies, high street or specialist depending on your background.
You could even (as a last resort) try the job centre.

Start your own business? Maybe do some freelance work. You don't say what you did before you became unemployed, but experience is always a good thing. Find an agency that specialises in what you do and see if they can get you some contract jobs. Or make one of your hobbies into your job. Or take up poker!

Wow, I thought I was bad off - I'm over 50 and over-employed. I guess I ought to consider myself luckier than I did.
But seriously, what sort of help were you thinking about?
The part about being over 50, or the part about being unemployed?

Learn a skill like joinery or plumbing. Painting and decorating is a good one. Something you can do at anytime. In this day and age of single mothers and independent professional sorts, people are always crying out for odd job people. I've got a list as long as your arm and once word of mouth spreads, you wont have a minute to yourself. Good luck

http://www.laterlife.co.uk is specifically set up for the over-50's and also includes information and resources for people looking for work
Check them out, I am sure you will find them useful

You'll be lucky mate, I'm 22, been out of University a year and I can't get work anywhere. It's a sodding joke in my opinion, I'm giving serious thought to emmigrating.
You know, I've played by the rules, I've done what was asked which was go to college and uni, and where's my rewards? non-existent.

Talk to the Job Centre staff. They will help you get on a training course, that will led to a job.
They are really helpful.
