I think many people, whether Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist... eat in the kitchen.
Are you actually asking why Hindus or Muslims do not eat outside their homes?
Muslims have to eat Halal food, which means that an animal has to be killed in a specified way, and that the establishment preparing the food must not have say pork for example. So strictly speaking, if an establishment does not have halal certification, it might not have that many traditional Muslims customers.
Similarly, some Hindus (and Buddhists) are strict vegetarians, and a similar idea applies.
I also think the Jews have something about Kosher meat, or Vegans only eating at selected establishments...
So to be on the 'safe' side many people choose to eat at home, and yes it is likely to be more prevalent among Muslims, Hindus and people of beliefs regarding what can be eaten and how it is prepared.

It is a probably some long lost practice. Cleanliness is important for Hindus. So, that's probably why they don't eat in the kitchen-- it would be unclean. And Muslims might be the same. Just a guess based on what I know.
