Oh no not another one...there was me thinking it was just me and the magpie thing!!! I think it is definately that they have to be seen together to count for 2 for joy...instead of moving out of the room when you see one out of the window...try hanging around for a bit or look around for trees and rooftops cos sometimes there is another one lurking about....though don't do what I do and stand there waiting for hours on end like a daft lemon!! Alternatively, try wearing blinkers or closing blinds/curtains to avoid the critters altogether!

take it as 2 for joy!! thats what i normally do!!
and i agree with the person above. i always say good morning (or afternoon) mr magpie but i always say sir!!!
i thought it was 7 for a secret never to be told!!
i saw 5 on the side of the road driving to my friends. when i got home i checked my lotto number and had won £100!!! so im thinking sometimes it is true!

The reason it's for sorrow, is because magpies stay together. It is sorrow because it's on it's own. Joy is that it has a companion.

Be positive and think of it as 2 for joy.Magpies mate for life which is why they are generally seen together. If you are worried just greet it goodmorning/afternoon and ask it how its family is!I have a tree opposite me that has several magpies in it but from time to time there is only one,i tend to greet them two or three times a day.I just tell myself that maybe the missing one of the pair has gone to visit family and will be back later!

its 2 one for sorrows!!
unless two of you see a single magpie, then you have to both say "a single magpie seen by two brings good luck to both of you"

10 is something you should not miss.
Personally I always say good morning Mr Magpie. A superstition but hey, it might work.
Good luck

sorry to let you know that you have to see 2 magpies together, if you only see on you have to salute and say morning captain or touch something black and it will never come back

nope - but you can prevent bad luck by waving at a single magpie!
one for sorrow
two for joy
three for a girl
four for a boy
five for silver
six for gold
seven for a story never to be told!!
I aint really superspicious but always tend to find myself waving at just the one - prevention is always better than cure I find!
