Usually not. Most scams are petty, not thought out well or just plain old poorly executed. HOWEVER I have a friend that came up with one. I was almost impressed with it.
What she does is go to a 4 star motel and check in. Then go to the room hang out a few minutes and then she goes down to the front desk with a baggy that she "found" in the night stand, desk, under the edge of the bed. In the baggy is a syringe ( one of her diabetic syringes) a crack pipe, the kind that as a little flower in it. She takes the flower out, sticks some brillo pad in t and makes it looked used, and then puts some BC powder in the bottom of the baggy. Her cost about 2.00.
She takes this to the front desk and demands to see the manager. She shows him / her what she "found" in the room. Raising all kinds of hell.
ALWAYS and I do mean ALWAYS she gets her money back for the room and ALWAYS gets upgraded to a suite, even the Presidential suite, and always scores a free pass to room service.
I did not really believe her, so I went on an adventure with her and sure enough, from the 4th floor to the Presidential Suite on the top floor, dinner for 2 from room service and her money back PLUS 1 more free night.
I did not stay, I am the paranoid type when it comes to crime, I split and went home, but I did eat the dinner and tipped the room service guy the cost of the meal.

I just love it when the pizza ia burnt and they have to send out a second one and that one is raw and they have to send out a third. Afterall, it doesn't even come close to what they charge for the things.
