I get really bad cramps & have to "run" if I have coffee, but I can't live without it! anything I can eat/drink/take to counteract it? Chocolate not quite as bad but I tend to have both together and would quite like to continue!

My gastoentrologist had me go on Metamucil, but now there are better fiber products, such as benefiber which has no taste, does not thicken, and can go right in your coffee.

I know that sounds like a contradiction, but with IBS the fiber helps absorb the excess liquid without causing the constipation that is often the flip side of IBS. it really has worked miracles for me. Try it for a few days, you won't be any worse, and you may be able to actually enjoy that cup of coffee and chocolate again.

Bite the bullet and go right off the coffee. It is not as bad as all that, you will feel dreadful for a couple of days that is all. The decaf now being made is much better than it used to be and once you kick the caffeine addiction you may find it satisfies you.

As for chocolate sorry but I don't know, but it does also contain caffeine so perhaps there is a caffeine free one you can get? Try a health food store.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome is a very difficult disorder and there is no permanent cure for this ailment with modern medicines. The patient has to correct his dietary habits and change his living style to continue living with it for his entire life. There are two major problems with IBS, one suffers from chronic diarrhea and second from unsatisfactory bowel movements. It was after I reached very close to a IBS sufferer in my city after he found me on the Internet and wished to seek my help since he could not find a suitable cure even after visiting top most endocrinologists in the same city. There are Ayurvedic and herbal medicines available to correct the suffering of IBS with proper management. Coffee is totally bad for IBS and should be avoided. Now, I have two IBS patients under my treatment through proper management and both are improving with their own words and one fine day, they will be able to eat anything they want. Presently, I have put them on a very restricted diet because in IBS, the stomach is unable to accept certain food and drinks that is of irritating nature since the stomach and colon becomes sluggish due to continuous strain of diarrhea and constipation. In case you trust my words, try to keep in touch since I am not allowed to disclose my identity here and I can understand your sufferings. Take care and be in good health.
