Never gets Drunk or never has a drink? Big difference. If you can toss a few with the guy but he stops after a while, is that bad? If he won't ever touch the stuff, is that worse? My pop has never had a drop, he says he doesn't like to 'loose control', which shows how little experience he has with it. You might consider this in a different way. If you smoke crack, or something else illegal, and hang out with other coke-heads, wouldn't you mistrust a bud who didn't smoke it with you? You might think he was a cop. You might drink much more than the average person and you could actually have a problem that you don't want to face...

Smile, here are two questions.

Where is the connection between never getting drunk and secretive and inscrutable?

I myself don't drink alcohol, tea or coffee. Why? I don't like the taste.

A lot of people trust me with their secrets as I can be like a brick wall. About myself, I'm like a flowing tap. People who know me would say I'm not secretive and inscrutable. Quite the opposite.

so, to answer your two questions in one...

1. Do I distrust somebody who never gets drunk?

No. I distrust people according to their previous track record and based on my understanding of their personality. (I have been caught wrong on occasion.) You never know with people, at times.

2. Why are some people secretive and inscrutable?

It's a matter of personality traits, methinks

NO. I would trust someone more if they are clean and sober. It's an indication of a healthy person who is honest with themselves, therefore they would be honest with others. Also there may be some people who don't drink who are very wound up and unable to let go a bit, a person like that may be as unhealthy as say an alcholic, but a little bit here and there is fine.

What's wrong with being temperant? So to be trustworthy, you have to be a sot? I'd trust them more! They have the resolve to live up to standards they set for themselves. On the other hand, some people just don't get drunk because of the nasty tasting sh*t you have to drink to get drunk!

People who have a drinking problem don't like non-drinkers because it just amplifies the problem. Example: If you drink two and I drink one you are only ahead by one. If you drink four and I drink only two, you only had two more than me. If you drink four and I drink none, it would appear that you have a problem because you needed four drinks to make it through the same time I did without any.

Why on earth would I be any less trustworthy because I don't drink? If anything I would say my sobriety would make me more trustworthy, purely because I'm less likely to let something slip while under the influence.

I wonder where you put the link between never drunk and secretive....

Anyways, I'd rather trust a person who NEVER gets drunk, than someone who makes a habit of getting drunk
