I would explain to her why she shouldn't be wearing makeup. The kid is too young to be sucked into the consumerism and the low self-esteem that these products cause.
But I would also spend some time with her and have a spa and makeup day. Play dressup and show her how to use the makeup. It is sweet that she wants to be like you.
I would also talk to my parents to see what solution they can come up with. There are products that are for younger kids. Maybe some light colored nail polish and clear lip gloss. Even though I am personally against them, maybe your parents aren't.

You can get make-up made especially for little girls, it is translucent and cute: gel eye shadow, blush and lip gloss. Look into Avon products for kids, for instance. Then explain that beautiful faces always begin with clean, healthy skin and teach her how to properly wash and tone her skin (at 10 she doesn't need a moisterizer, but perhaps some sun screen designed for the face is good in the summer).

There's nothing wrong with playing with make-up once in a while, for fun. Perhaps on a Saturday once a month you could have a dress-up day and she can learn the proper way to apply more difficult things like eyeliner.

And here's an idea that I always loved to do: buy a cannister of Quaker oatmeal (if you don't like cooked oatmeal, then make some cookies with it) and let her put "make-up" on the face of the Quaker man! It is really funny, but also informative and an artistic approach to make-up. I used fine tip markers, but colored pencil would also work nicely.

This idea can also be used with a picture of your sister printed on ordinary printer paper (as opposed to photo paper), the idea being that she can see how some things would look really silly, or really nice, on her own face without having to actually put it on. This might satisfy her desire to experiment with make-up in a way that is more age-appropriate.

10 year olds need to also learn to use face washes, mosturizers and etc. Once they can do that on an everyday occurance they are then able to use the rest. There is a product that is out on the market that is simply beautiful. You can get it on the TV I believe it is the Life Channel that you can see how it works. It leaves the face more natural and it less chemical. Then the lip gloss. Nothing more. She's just exploring her beauty, I congradulate you on questioning how to help and not make her feel inadequate for wanting to know.
Encourage her and you will find she will make better choices as she grows older.
If she is doing something wrong, tell her...if it looks terrible, tell her don't let things get out of hand, pretty soon she will sneak it out of the house and put it on at school....yikes, have you seen some of those kiddos'....bravo for you....

A ten year old, should not even be wearing make-up. What happened to children just being children. Using skin products is a different thing, and a little lip gloss, but make up, what for? Who is she trying to impress at that age? Scarey thought

Well, I seriously doubt a 10 year old needs any makeup at all. At that age the skin should be virtually flawless (maybe some blemishes). If you insist upon covering up youthful, radiant skin...Try Bare Minerals. It is super light and very natural looking.

EEk! 10 is too young-lip gloss yes- but makeup=no-
She does not need to grow up so fast. Little sisters like to feel grown up like their big sisters and do what they do. Being a good example helps.

Ten years old is way too young for make up. I would come up with an age which you will let her wear makeup. Then I would sit her down and tell her that when she is ?? (what ever age you pick) you may start to wear make up. But until then you need to learn how to take care of your skin. I would show her how to wash her face correctly with a good face cleaner.
Alot of kids don't wash their faces right and they end up getting blackheads.
I don't think it would hurt for her to be able to wear lip gloss.

Hope this helps.

tiny bit of pale pink eyeshadow, dont let her use any mascara or eyeliners... she's much to young. and then try a little light colour on her cheeks with tinted gloss. this will make her feel like she's wearing a lot of makeup, but she will still look her age.

yea. how about telling her NO, and that shes gonna be sexualized and made into a porn princess. Ever heard of Jean Benett ? Set some limits on the kid.

Or.. if u really have no controll, just make osme fake makeup and tell her its real.

Or .
tell her Britney Spears dosent wear make up. LIE LIE LIE.

Just dont let her become a skeezer by 12.

If she's just wearing lipstick and eye shadow that's fine. Tell her not to wear any of the foundations or powders or anything because when she hits puberty it's going to make her break out.
I also tell her that she is ten and doesn't need make-up, although she probably won't listen.
