Like already mentioned, they area all over the place. I've noticed they are usually near grocery stores and/or shopping areas. Good luck finding one near you. BTW, not all the stuff is useless junk. I've bought some good stuff there.

As everyone else has said, they're everywhere. Though, my times in Akihabara I don't recall seeing one. There's a big 2-story on in Asakusa down from Senso-ji.
Also good are 99 Yen stores where you can pick up small portions of fresh produce if you get tired of 100 Yen store insta-ramen noodles. They sell household items as well.

Alot of the 100 yen stores (Daiso) are not too far from the train stations. The biggest one that I've been to was the one by Machida Station (5 floors high), the second one is in the suburbs of Fussa (3 floors) right outside the train station

They're all over the place. There's one in Roppongi, near the Hard Rock Cafe. And my favorite one is in Ueno, right across the street from the JR Railways station facing the zoo.
You might also enjoy shopping at Muji, which is very much like Ikea. They have good basic stuff at decent prices. There's one in Marunouchi, near the Bic Camera (also a great place to shop for everyday stuff).

hyaku`en shops are great ! I got a teapot and 2 cups a strainer and a small tray for 400yen that was nearly 3 years ago and they are still doing well and used regularly. We also brought everything for a children`s party, maybe 60 children for 12400 yen, flags and small gifts, games everything you could need. Not the food of course !
Look around, I can only vouch for the ones I have been to and they were all good fun, but that was up in miyagi pre. not in Electric Town.

If you're in Japan I'm sure there are a dozen a short bike ride from where you are sitting right now...
It will always say 100円 out the front. Your neighbours will tell / show you.

Look for stores that have a cartoon baby on the front of it. At least that was what it was in okinawa.
