Good. We have just been allowed civil partnerships which have all the merits of marriage but are between two people of the same sex.

There is a law coming soon which will make it illegal for hotels to turn away gay couples.

The situation is getting better, but there is still some work to be done. The government has been slow to catch up on what a lot of other countries have already got in place, and in some cases the UK government has had to be forced to pass new rights etc by the UN, but to be fair they are getting to a place where people can live normal lives. The true power belongs to the media and how it refers to LGBT people (such as being defensive of them, being abusive to them, exaggerating things to make things harder for them etc), and until they are fully supportive of diversity, there will always be bumps in the road.

Legally - civil partnerships are now possible.

Socially - in the big cities (especially London and Manchester) there are plenty of out LGBT people, and it is generally accepted. Out in smaller towns and in certain parts of the country people are more conservative and homophobic, but things are (too slowly) changing.

We have a number of out gay politicians, of all parties (including at various points ministers), and they have been re-elected again and again.
