The central desert of Iran is called "KAVIR" which is located between Alborz and Zagross mountains in the middle of Iran.
It is one of the driest and highest deserts in the world. It is as dry as Saudi Arabia and as high as Alps. There are a few cities located on the edge of Kavir like YAZD, KERMAN, ISFAHAN, and QOM. Kavir has two major sections , Larger one is called "Loot" and smaler section is named "Kavir_e_namak" which means desert of salt.
Traveling in KAVIR needs special facilities and skills, miles after miles you can not see but salt rocks and sand. But it is unique in landscape. No one can forget how sky looks near in this "KAVIR"

Iranians are the one of best hosts in the world. You never feel lonely in Iran. Do not believe the political approach news. Iranians have a 3000-year history in their background. Just search for KOROSH-The great (hem.passagen.se) to see that it was Iranian King who freed the Hebrews from Iraq. It also must be mentioned that we have more than 20,000 European tourists as our guests in Iran annualy.
Hope That would be useful.

I don't know about the desert in Iran, but I do know that right now is not a good time. Soon enough, fighting (military personnel w/people who do not want to stop building weapons of mass destruction- Iranians) will break out (unless there's a miracle; kind of like what has been happening in Afghanistan & Iraq. Coming from me, I would highly reccommend not to sight see in Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, and anywhere in the middle eastern area. That's just my opinion though.
