My pets are always jumping in fright for no reason when they are asleep and there are strange noises coming from the stair well. Could this be a ghost or some other form of supernatural behavior ?

Absolutely without a doubt. I was walking up the stairs. My cat was sat at the top. Just sitting there watching me climb the stairs. Then he backed off. He hissed and stared BEHIND ME!!! He was looking at someone else. I turned round and there was no-one there. I looked back at the cat who was now standing, hissing with an arched back looking at whoever he saw behind me.

I F UCKING SHITE MESELF!

I don't believe in supernatural things but I don't look down. If the fortuneteller says I need to do something to prevent my bad luck, I would do it. Just want to have peace of mind so long as it doesn't cost me much.
Come back to your question, I have seen in the ghost stories. I believe it is only applicable to the dogs and not cats or other pets that can sense the spirit floating around.
At night when dogs sense the spiritual thing they would howl with long voices and it gave me shivering. Yes, I believe it even though there is no proof that this is true.

Well if ghosts do exist then yeah I think animals can sense them - all animals have a kind of sixth sense - even when theres storms coming youll notice all the animals (well horses anyway) kinda huddle together in a sheltered area - and a bit later a huge thunderstorm passes over.
Maybe you just have a rat or something in the stairwell - why dont you check it out first?
Having never seen a ghost - and certainly never wanting to - I think Id be fairly freaked out if these occurances happened in my house!!

A ghost would want to show itself to a dog I would imagine which I would think unlikely.

If they were alwyas just there than yes. You must remember a dog or animal or any lesser life form that doesn't question nor doubt would be open to these things.

I think if ghosts were common place to animals than they would not pay much mind to them. I have noticed my dogs when I walk in the room they are like "yup another boring day laying on the floor".

I think as far as spirits go and what is written they do roam and surround theirself of people like them or people they enjoy. Everyone loves dogs.

Defo they can.

My husband and i were in our living room with our two rotties, who were asleep. I saw something whizz through the settee at the same time as my husband felt a draught. The dogs went mad. What else could it be?

Also, many years ago, i had a chihuahua pup. She was too young to do the "oy this is my house" barking bit. She was sat on my knee. It was an old house and all of a sudden, she stood on me her hackles went up and she was looking at a door, growling, i thought hello, what's this, shouted "who's there"? the door opened and no one was there. The dog and I waited on the doorstep for my husband to come home. She wouldn't go back in.

Explain that one.

HI Brittany

My cousin had small terrier that had to be dragged into the kitchen. The house had a spirt of a small boy, I saw it move a small toy car across the floor once. My cousin shared the spirt with three houses in her block of flats.

After a few years they got some to read it it's last rights, no more hassle after that. Building has be recently showing to be a old mortuary 275 years ago.

P.S this is a true story, it happen in Edinburgh 1990's

Dogs and cats see ghosts as plain as they see us. I had a cat the would play with a ghost in my old appartment. The ghost was in the shape of an orb and even appeared to me on a few occasions. I saw 5 ghosts as full apparitions in that place also. But I'm sure they had adopted the family dog for themself and my cat was one of the ghost kids best little friends. Sure, they see them. No problem. Any more questions feel free to ask.

i have been working the same stable yard for 5 years now. As it's an old place, there are plenty of ghost stories. But one is definetly no story.

when we have to have an animal put down, it is done in the indoor school. I have often been teaching or riding in there when a horse will stop dead, looking at something that i can't see, smelling and whickering as though they are greeting another horse.

it's nice to know our horses hang around, even after they are gone.

Maybe your dogs are having a bad dream, mine used to wag her tail when she was asleep! But i do think dogs are very sensitive to ghosts, my dog always did as she was told and never left my side but she would not walk down the main street in Clovelly, I talked about this with a resident who told me that there were known to be ghosts there and a number of other dogs and simply turned and fled when entering the village
